June 15, 2010 - The
mattress/bedding industry “Green
Initiative” program spearheaded
by the
Specialty Sleep Association
(SSA) has added a new supplier
board sponsor: Latexco US, the
United States/Canada division of
Latexco of Belgium.
Additionally, the President of
Latexco West, Roger Coffey, has
been named to serve on the
founding board of the “Green
Initiative,” which is focused on
defining eco-friendly sleep and
providing clarity for consumers
shopping for mattresses and
bedding.
According
to Dale T. Read, President of
the SSA, “We continue our strong
outreach to suppliers in the
mattress/bedding industry to
further expand the ‘Green
Initiative.’ Roger Coffey and
Latexco are leading the way in
the world of latex foam
components for the bedding
industry. As our Safety &
Environmental Program evolves
and expands in the months ahead,
we look forward to their active
involvement.”
Latexco produces a large range
of mattress cores, toppers and
pillow cores. Latexco US
Holdings was the compapny’s
first expansion in North
America. Latexco US is part of
the family owned Latexco N.V.
group based in Europe with over
50 years of experience in
serving the bedding industry
worldwide. The company has an
award-winning recycling process
which turns waste product into
clean, profitable alternatives.
“At Latexco, we feel that it is
imperative to give back to our
industry and customers. We have
always been involved with the
ecology of our products and our
stewardship of the environment
we draw our products from. The
SSA ‘Green Initiative’ is the
perfect forum for our thoughts
and actions to be addressed. I
am excited to being a member of
the Board and look forward to
working with such as prestigious
group to achieve the
Initiative’s goals,” said
Coffey.
The SSA has recently announced
an industry-wide product
labeling effort that is the core
elements of its Safety &
Environmental Program. The
ongoing national initiative is
centered on addressing a key
industry challenge: helping to
bring “transparency” to
acceptable practices in the
manufacture and marketing of
eco-friendly sleep products.
All aspects of the SSA program
are based on in-depth national
research and input from
manufacturers, retailers, retail
sales associates (RSAs), and the
market at-large – as well as
analyses of applicable consumer
protection laws at the federal
and state levels.
Founded in 1995, the Specialty
Sleep Association is a national
not-for-profit organization
created to facilitate the growth
and positive awareness of the
specialty sleep category. SSA
membership is comprised of more
than 100 manufacturers and
retailers ranging from small,
family-owned businesses to large
corporations.
