Natura Selected as First Manufacturer By Mattress Giant’s

for the Retailer’s 2009 Sustainability Program

April 15, 2009 - Natura World Inc. has partnered with Mattress Giant, North America’s fifth largest bedding retailer to promote their mutual Sustainability Programs. Natura’s collection of eco-friendly pillows will be featured in Mattress Giant’s 369 retail locations. Nine of Natura’s eco-friendly pillows have been selected, each one incorporating a blend of natural and green materials, with one even made from post-consumer recycled bottles.

“We are very excited about leading the sustainability charge in partnership with Mattress Giant” said Natura’s president, Ralph Rossdeutscher. “With all of our products, we strive to make it easier for everyone to choose green, natural and organic. Our eco-green pillow is just one example of how eco-friendly products are good for both the environment and our bodies.”

For 15 years, Natura World has been providing natural and organic bedding products for the whole family, remaining committed to the environment by incorporating sustainability practices in both its operations and products. In efforts to reduce waste, Natura developed an in-house process to shred latex from latex ends for use in pillow cores, reducing latex clogging up landfills. Natura is also the only wool mattress/bedding manufacturer in North America to card its own wool (brushing raw fibres to prepare them for textiles), which cuts down on cross-contamination and transportation costs. Other key sustainability efforts include using vegetable dyes, biodegradable plastic and recycled paper for all packaging; recycling all paper, plastic packaging and cardboard and changing all indoor and outdoor lighting to energy efficient bulbs.

Some of Mattress Giant’s sustainability initiatives include recycling all its waste such as plastic and cardboard from mattress packaging in seven of 10 Mattress Giant distribution centers, saving approximately 35 tons per month. It also recycles wood in three distribution centers, which adds up to about 5,000 pounds per month and it’s the first mattress retailer to ask its suppliers to provide 3 mm. plastic mattress covers as opposed to 4 mm., saving approximately 16,200 pounds of plastic per year. Other key efforts include reducing the speed of delivery trucks to 62 miles per hour, saving 10,000 gallons of fuel per year and converting all exterior retail store lighting from neon to LED, saving more than 60,000 kilowatt hours.

Natura World’s products are designed for the entire sleep environment and are all created to improve sleep quality and reduce common allergens while giving careful consideration to environmental sustainability. Natura World’s pure and natural collection features mattresses and bedding including mattress toppers, duvets/comforters and pillows that are made from silky virgin wool encased in 100% buttery cotton.
