Goodbed Mattress Testing Program – Recap and Q&A in the SSA Showroom
At the recent Furniture Today Bedding Conference Mike Magnuson and Dow scientist Kevin Meyer delivered a wake-up call to the industry, “The clock is ticking, if we don’t act now, we risk becoming just another category where price and reviews are the only things that matter.” According to Magnuson, Amazon has become the largest unit seller of mattresses in the U.S., with an average selling price of just $225 for a queen. That price tag might seem unbeatable – but it’s also reshaping consumer expectations in ways that could harm the entire industry. More discussion is warranted!

What happens when a high priced mattress gets the same “star rating” as a lower priced mattress making the same claims (the usual suspects include comfort, cooling, sustainability). Can anybody prove what they claim?
Magnusson will be on hand for a short recap of what he delivered at the Bedding Conference, and then will take your questions.
Your Homework: Get Familiar With The Program Before You Arrive
GoodBed has teamed up with world-renowned materials science company DOW to create the mattress industry’s first 3rd party scientific testing program. Mike Magnuson, GoodBed’s founder, presented data showing how cheap online mattresses have become an existential threat to all quality mattress producers and sellers. These commodity products are fueled by positive customer reviews, claims parity with higher-priced products (support, comfort, cooling etc), and the lack of consistent performance standards. Magnuson recognized the necessity for brands and stores to validate the performance of quality products with independent testing data, and went to work to create a powerful way for them to do this. Kevin Meyer, a Dow scientist, was on hand to provide more detail around Dow’s robust scientific lab testing capabilities. And Mark Quinn of Shifman Mattress delivered a case study that illustrated his company’s first-hand experience using the program – he gave it rave reviews.
